Q:What does a General Contractor do?
A:We as a general contractor oversee the entire building process for the homeowner.
We coordinate and schedule all work, whether it is all done by our crew or a combination of us as well as our subcontractors, to make the project run as smooth as possible. There are hundreds of details that need to be handled as the job progresses. It only makes sense to have an experienced and qualified builder take care of these headaches for you.
Q:What am I as a homeowner responsible for in the building process?
A:In the planning stage of the project we will meet and discuss details/procedures a few or maybe as many as a dozen times before construction actually begins. There will be key items for you to make decisions on at certain points during the course of building. Examples would be plumbing & electrical fixtures, floorcoverings, cabinets, etc. It will be important to have these items selected by the dates we request, so that the products can be installed on schedule.
Q:What if I need to makes changes once the contract/proposal is signed?
A:All changes to the original bid must be made with a change order, specifying what it is we are doing & the cost. You will then sign off on the change order before any work pertaining to that request begins.
Q:How long should I expect my project to take?
A:All projects are different in nature, so it's hard to say for example that your kitchen remodel is going to take the same amount of time that your neighbors did. We will be able to closely estimate the length once all information is gathered.
Q:How soon must I contact you before we can begin our House/Remodel?
A:This is an extremely important item to keep in mind. If it is a new home you are considering, we recommend at least 4-5 months. If it is an addition/remodel then 2-3 months. This will not only give us enough time to properly design your project, but it will also give us enough time to work you into our schedule.
Q:How do I break into your schedule?
A:Unfortunately, during the planning stage, we can only ballpark an actual start date. We have to take jobs on a first come first serve basis. Once the signed proposal and down-payment are received, we can then get you onto our schedule and shoot you an estimated start date.
